Since 1980, Allan Drew Funerals has been caring for families in the Hills District and surrounding areas by helping them commemorate the life of their loved ones with dignity and compassion.
Our 15 long-standing team members offer you their experienced care in creating a celebration of life, hope, faith and love, and will help you personalise all aspects of the funeral service so it is a memorable and heartfelt farewell to your loved one.
We proudly serve Sydney and the Hills District from our funeral homes in Castle Hill and Rouse Hill.
The chapel at our Castle Hill location was the original St Paul’s Anglican Church, which has been a local landmark since 1861. While our funeral home in Rouse Hill is located on the grounds of Castlebrook Memorial Park.
“Leading a wonderful team of employees and helping people at one of their most vulnerable times in their lives is truly an honour,” Castle Hill location manager and Dural resident Nancy Mackintosh says.
The late Allan Drew OAM was a part of the local community for more than 45 years and was one of the most recognisable figures in and around the Hills District of Sydney.
Allan was real estate agent and auctioneer prior to being funeral director. He started Allan Drew Funerals with his wife from their family home in Castle Hill. He was known in the community through the numerous charities he supported.
Allan’s motto was always: “It doesn’t matter if today’s service is for the Queen, Prime Minister or the lady down the road, everyone’s funeral is just as important as the last. Our standards are the same no matter for who, what or where”.
“My father was an unbelievably proud gardener, and when he died I felt that the appropriate place to hold his funeral was in his garden. But back in 1980, I found it difficult to convince a funeral director to do it,” said Allan.
“At the time, I was working as a real estate agent in Parramatta and coincidentally I purchased a property that had a funeral business attached to it. I ran it for a year, then sold it and bought a real estate agency. But during the next year, as a real estate agent I arranged 100 funerals. My wife sold the houses, and I arranged the funerals.”
“Not long after that a colleague suggested I start a funeral home in Castle Hill, which is where Allan Drew Funerals has been located ever since.”
We are very proud and honoured to continue Allan’s legacy. It was important to Allan that no family is ever turned away, so in 2019 we donated a grave and conducted a funeral at little cost for an elderly man. The man’s next of kin was his wife who had special needs. He only had a minimal amount of money in the bank to cover his and his wife’s funerals, so we assisted in a way that upheld Allan’s legacy.
Allan created a reputation for excellent funeral services as well as compassion for his fellow human beings. Allan Drew Funerals provides a level of care and service that is second to none.
Allan Drew Funerals has always been a supporter of charities and community groups including local Rotary, Legacy and bowling clubs as well as church fairs, the Parramatta Mission Blanket Appeal, Hills Relay for Life, Ministry to Men and many others.
Allan Drew himself was a volunteer for Kenyon International and GAIN (Global Aid Network) and made many trips to Asia to deliver aid. In 2004, he assisted with the Tsunami recovery and in 2005, he arranged the repatriation of victims of the Bali terrorist attack.
Both as a business and individuals, we want to have a positive impact in the community we live and work in and give back and ensure our local community continues to thrive.
Allan Drew Funerals is available any time you need us. We're with you every step of the way.
